» The spring-summer Special Olympics will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 3 at the Southside Fitness Center track and field on Ramstein. The Special Olympics is an international program of athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The event holds a variety of Olympic-type sporting events, giving all participants the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience the joy by participating in events with other Special Olympic athletes in the community. Come out and support the 80 to 150 anticipated competing participants.

» Shop until you drop at the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Summer Bazaar June 3 through 5. The bazaar features a large variety of European vendors selling treasures, paintings, jewelry, wine and much more. Food and beverages will be available on site. Times and dates: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 3; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 4; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 5 at the Special Events Center on Rhine Ordnance Barracks, Bldg. 237. » Celebrate the Army’s 241st birthday! U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation offers free cake, while supplies last, June 14 at every Java Cafe location and at Army Community Service. Be sure to also enjoy a special discount $2.41 for the 241st on a tall latte, this day only. In addition, a special cake-cutting ceremony will take place at the Rhine Ordnance Barracks and Baumholder dining facilities at 12 p.m. June 14. Armstrong’s Club Events

» Comedy show: June 18. Come out to Armstrong’s Club for a night of fun and laughter at the comedy show. This event will feature host Lee Marvin Adams and comedians Jason Thompson and Munchie. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 9 p.m. Cost: $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Purchase tickets in advance at Armstrong’s Club, any Java Cafe in the KMC or online via WebTrac.

» Father Daughter Fairytale Ball: 3:30 to 7 p.m. June 25. Dads, take your daughter out for a special night she’ll always remember. The night will be filled with music, dancing, bonding and fun. Cost: $59.95 per father-daughter couple and $14.95 per additional child. Ticket price includes a plated meal, keepsake photo, gift bag and princess meet and greet. Deadline to purchase tickets is June 20. Come in formal attire. Military dress uniforms are encouraged but not required. Tickets are available online via WebTrac, from Armstrong’s Club Mondays through Fridays or from any Java Cafe in the KMC.

» Small Tab Tuesdays: 5 to 10 p.m. every Tuesday play a game of pool or pick your favorite jam on the jukebox while enjoying specials.

» A breast-feeding support group meets every Tuesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Join other moms and dads for this informational class about breast-feeding, sleeping and normal newborn behavior. Classes and Training

» Commanders and senior leaders training is from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m the first Thursday of every month. This training is a mandatory requirement within 45 days of assumption of command for all commanders and senior enlisted advisers, E7-E9. Receive information on the Family Advocacy Program, the Exceptional Family Member Program and the Army Emergency Relief Program. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion. » Conversational German courses are offered in two levels: beginner and intermediate. Participants will gain a better understanding of the written and verbal German language. Baumholder Events

» Youth Learn-to-Swim sessions offered by Baumholder Indoor Swimming Pool will be held June 7 through 23. Registration will be open Tuesday to June 6. Levels offered include: Parent and Child Class for ages 12 months to 3 years old, Preschool Aquatics for ages 3 to 5 years old, and Learn-to-Swim levels one through four for ages 6 and older. » Join Baumholder Library for a Summer Reading Program kickoff party June 16. The party begins at 11:30 a.m. and will include “Read for the Win” activities and games, popcorn and beverages.
