Play season begins Wednesday in Ramstein

The culture and conference center, Haus des Bürgers in Ramstein-Miesenbach will host its first performance of the 2009-2010 play season Wednesday. A diversified program with 30 events including concerts, musicals, operettas, dances and speaking theater is scheduled to take place until May 2010.

The Uzume Taiko ensemble presents a percussion show in special costumes at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets cost between €22 and €28.

Another special show will be the “Dance Masters – the Best of Irish Dance,” presented by some of the best Irish tap dancers showing off different tap styles in traditional costumes at 8 p.m. Jan. 28. Tickets range from €35 to €46.

Like each play season, the culture center hosts various musical shows. The first one is “One Night with David Moore” at 8 p.m. Oct. 10. This renowned musical star, who sang in more than 15 musicals, will take the audience on a wonderful trip with his favorite songs from musical, pop and gospel.

The Rainbow Band will present “Musical in Concert – the Cult Show” Nov. 11. International musical stars will perform songs from “Mama Mia,” “Starlight Express,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Dirty Dancing,” “Saturday Night Fever” and “Cabaret,” supported by a special light show. Tickets cost €30 to €39.
Another musical show with songs from 20 years of musical history is “Musical Fieber,” which will lure the audience to Ramstein March 11. Tickets range from €32 to €43.

Various concerts will be presented throughout the season. The band Miracle Drug will give “A Tribute to U 2” Oct. 28. Tickets cost €14 to €26.
Seven vocalists and a band will present  “Christmas Moments” Dec. 11.  Tickets are €24 to €32.

The traditional New Year’s concert will feature highlights from operettas by four soloists and a choir Jan. 3. A ballet will perform a variety of dances in different costumes. Tickets cost €23 to €29.

The Haus des Bürgers also offers a special classical music ticket, which includes six concerts taking place 5 p.m. Sundays. Cost is €45 for adults, €32 for students and €21 for children under 14. The individual ticket to each concert is €10 to €12.
The first chamber concert with members of the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart will perform songs and piano music under the motto “East meets West” with works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Tanejew, Schuman and Brahms will be Oct. 11.
Three young artists will present opera arias by Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, Gounod and Bach Nov. 8.

Six musicians of the trumpet ensemble Zephir will present chamber music Nov. 29.
Another chamber concert for flute, piano and harp is scheduled for Jan. 17. Three soloists of the Mainzer Chamber Orchestra will present a New Year’s concert, also known as “Concert of the Fifth Season.”

“Vienna Blood and Gypsy Sounds” is the motto of the last concert of this series presented by three artists Feb. 21. Villa Musica awardees will present Tango Sensations taking people on a musical trip through Argentina March 28.
The culture center will host two special events: A concert by the renowned Manfred Mann’s Earth Band Dec. 3, and Magic Moments, the new show by seven members of Mnozil Brass Feb. 20. Tickets range from €28 to €38.

Tickets for four or seven performances are available at reduced prices.

The culture center offers a babysitter service. Parents must let the staff know three days in advance. Children can be dropped off one hour prior to the event and are being taken care of by well-trained babysitters in the library, right next to the performance hall. Cost is €10.
