More than 130 runners and walkers (some with strollers) braved Baumholder’s inclement weather and turned out for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Run Oct. 12 on Smith Barracks.

“The course is more challenging this time, but we did it for the cause, so thank you for coming out today and participating,” said Tony Ramsey from Baumholder’s sports office before the start of the race.

First place in the men’s category went to Jason Basaladua (19:46), Det. 14th Air Support Operations Squadron. Second place was given to George Johnson (20:13), 3rd Battalion, 4th Infantry. Third place went to Travis Gere (20:41), 720th Explosive Ordnance Disposal.

In the women’s category, first place went to Laurie Loeffler (23:01), 92nd Military Police. Second place went to Monique Berthon from the law center. Third place was awarded to Erica Kane (26:07), 24th Brigade Support Battalion.
For the youth, Wolden Giefer took first place with a time of 22:20, second place went to Sarah Holliday with a time of 33:36, and Justise Little finished third with a time of 34:10.

The next community run will be the annual Monster Mash on Oct. 31. Everyone is invited to dress up in their favorite Halloween costume for this run.
