State fair takes place June 3 to 5 in Alzey

The annual Rheinland-Pfalz State Fair will take place June 3 to 5 in the city of Alzey. Cities and union communities of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz, charity organizations and military forces will participate in the fair to demonstrate who they are and what they have to offer.

Ever since 1984, the state fair has taken place in alternating cities to present the diversity of Rheinland-Pfalz.

An entertaining program with live music, dance performances, presentations and displays will be offered on 20 areas and stages within the city.

The official opening will be at 6 p.m. June 3 at the Sportplatz Gymnasien, the sports fields near high schools. Singer Ray Garvey will entertain the audience with his band.

Other performers during the three-day event include Laith Al-Deen, the bands Feuerherz, Culcha Candela, 7ty Proof, Mr. Clean, Swampmoon and many others.

The market of cities and counties on Hospitalstrasse will reflect the diversity of the communities in Rheinland-Pfalz. It will display offers for tourists, traditional craftsmanship and culinary specialties from the different regions.

German and U.S. military members will present their work and display equipment in a camp set up on the parking lot on Jean-Braun-Strasse.

The U.S. Air Force will send the 86th Civil Engineer Squadron with fire department equipment, the 786th CES presenting a bomb suit, vehicle, robot and training aides, the 435th Security Forces Squadron presenting sniper equipment and door frame breaching and the 435th Contingency Response Squadron with a 25K-loader and a 10K all-terrain forklift.

The U.S. Air Forces in Europe bands Touch ‘n’ Go and Wings of Dixie will perform at 7:30 p.m. June 4 and at noon June 5, respectively.

The Army side of the KMC will present its U.S. Army Europe Show Band performing at 7 p.m. June 3 near Stadthalle.

The Army will also send the 21st Theater Sustainment Command’s Theater Logistics Support-Center Europe with a tank truck, the 30th Medical Brigade presenting advanced trauma life support, the 7th Mission Support Command with a medical support unit and the 18th Military Police showing off a military working dog team.

Traditionally, the minister president will sponsor a military youth reception for selected Soldiers and Airmen and members of the German Bundeswehr.

A farmers and organic market with more than 20 vendors and farmers stands will be set up in Ostdeutsche Strasse.

Rescue and relief services, such as federal and state police, Red Cross, firefighters and customs, can be found on the Zentrum parking lot.

Visitors interested in sports and games will get a chance to experience hockey, biking, sailing, badminton, martial arts, table tennis and chess in Schlosspark.

Helicopter flights are being offered from 2 to 6 p.m.
June 4 and 5.

The big festival parade with floats, walking groups and bands will start at 1 p.m. June 5.

Motorists are asked to use the park and ride parking lots. From there, shuttle buses will be available to take you to the fest area.

Alzey is located on autobahn A61, north of Gruenstadt.
