New to the area? Go see The Documentation and Exhibition Centre, a permanent exhibition, in bright red shipping containers close to Azur swimming pool in Ramstein that traces the history of U.S. Americans in Rheinland-Pfalz. There is a real commitment in K-Town to making history and collective memories exciting and available for the population.

Listen to Caterina Valente’s rendition of a Cole Porter song “Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe.” Find out what a Thanksgiving menu looked like in 1964. Understand the tragedy that struck RAB in 1988. The site is constantly evolving; more containers are expected to arrive before summer. For more information, visit www.dc-ramstein.de.

In the same vein, walk into Westrich Museum in the heart of Ramstein on Miesenbacher Strasse 1 to find out what the German words “Kerwestrauß” and “Tante-Emma-Laden” stand for. Notice the wedding boxes and the underwear worn by a German Soldier on his return from a Russian prison in 1946. For more information about the museum, call 063 71-838186. Soon to hit K-town is Künstler-werkgemeinschaft Kaiserslautern, an artist collective located at Waldschlösschen on Bremer Strasse 12 (behind the train station). They will hold their annual open studio event on two consecutive weekends in September. This is a rare opportunity to meet artists in their natural habitat and explore a multitude of work and art practices in a stunning location.
