Members of the 569th U.S. Forces Police Squadron participate in tug of war during the Battle of the Badges competition May 19 on Ramstein. Airmen and Soldiers participated in multiple events to determine the best local police unit. After hours of competition, the 435th Security Forces Squadron was declared the winner.

To get a look at life in an American middle school, 55 eighth-grade students and their teachers from the Reichswald-Gymnasium in Ramstein-Miesenbach spent the day at Ramstein Middle School April 19. RMS students from Justine McCauley’s German I and II classes hosted the students by providing tours of the school, examples of typical classroom instruction, a potluck luncheon and more. This was the ninth year German-language classes at the RMS and the local German school have exchanged visits.

May carnival starts today
Kaiserslautern starts its annual “Maikerwe,” or May carnival, at 5 p.m. today at the Messeplatz fairgrounds. More than 140 ride owners and vendors present their attractions, merchandise and food specialties. A fireworks display will be lit around 10 p.m. Through May 30, the rides are open from 1 to 11 p.m. each day and until midnight Saturdays.
