Who is crazy enough to go camping in Germany during the winter? Especially when the night time temps have already dipped to freezing in early November this year.

Germans love Christmas cookies so much that they designated an entire word to it: “Plätzchen.” This means if you’re looking for cookies anytime between January and October, they’re “Kekse” but as soon as the first lights are put up, they will all be replaced by the seasonal “Plätzchen.”

In a few plain words, glühwein is a mulled wine — a wine combined with spices and typically served warm. Those who have tried it know how to enjoy it: outside with friends on a wintry evening when the air is crisp and daylight has gone early.

I normally take one-day hikes during the winter in the local areas only a short drive away. However, I decided to venture out for an entire weekend after being told to stop being a lazy hiking homebody who goes out for a few hours and retreats back home to binge watch the latest series on TV.
