Kaiserslautern Military Community’s Family Housing On-Base Resident Reminders Pet Ownership
As a pet-friendly community, we value the companionship that animals bring to our homes. This article serves as a friendly reminder of important guidelines and best practices for responsible pet ownership within KMC. Ensuring responsible pet ownership helps create a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for all residents, both with and without pets.
Key Pet Ownership Responsibilities:
Registration and Licensing: Please ensure your pet(s) are properly registered with the Base Veterinary Clinic and Housing Office as required by Regulation. Up-to-date licenses and vaccinations are essential for the health and safety of your pet and the community.
Leash Laws and Control: When outside your residence, all pets must be always kept on a leash and under your control. This is for the safety of your pet, other residents, and other animals. Leashes should be a reasonable length or retractable and used responsibly to prevent pets from approaching others without consent.
Clean-Up After Your Pet: Cleaning-up after your pet is not only a courtesy to your neighbors, but also a requirement. Always carry waste bags and immediately clean up any feces left by your pet on lawns, sidewalks, common areas, or any other location. Properly dispose of waste in designated receptacles. Failure to do so can result in fines and other penalties.
Barking and Noise Control: Excessive barking or other disruptive pet noises can be a nuisance to neighbors. Please take steps to manage your pet’s behavior and minimize noise disturbances, especially during early morning and late evening hours. Consider training, enrichment activities, or consulting with a veterinarian or animal behaviorist if you are having difficulty managing your pet’s noise levels.
Pet Waste Disposal: Dispose of pet waste properly in designated pet waste stations or trash receptacles. Do not dispose of waste in storm drains or leave it in bags on the ground.
Pet Safety and Well-being: Ensure your pet has access to adequate food, water, shelter, and veterinary care. Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle, especially during hot weather. Be aware of potential hazards in the environment, such as poisonous plants or extreme temperatures.
Restricted Breeds (if applicable): Please be aware that KMC Housing may restrict certain breeds of dogs. If you own a restricted breed, you must comply with all applicable regulations, including muzzling requirements, increased liability insurance, or other restrictions. Breeds (crossbreeds) of dogs that are restricted or prohibited in Germany or are deemed “aggressive” or “potentially aggressive” are Pit Bull, American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, English Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Chow, Tosa Inu and wolf hybrids. Therefore, these breeds are prohibited in family housing. Wild, farm or exotic animals are prohibited.
Pet-Related Damage: You are responsible for any damage caused by your pet to the housing units, common areas, or the property of others. Please take steps to prevent damage and promptly report any incidents to the Housing Office.
Reporting Concerns: If you have concerns about a neighbor’s pet or suspect animal neglect or abuse, please contact the Base Security/Military Police if you believe a pet poses an immediate threat to safety.
We appreciate your commitment to responsible pet ownership and helping to maintain a pet-friendly and respectful community in our KMC. By working together, we can ensure that our housing area remains a desirable place to live for all residents and their furry companions.
