Starting this month, Ram-stein Commissary has Early Bird shopping hours
from 7:30 to 9 a.m. seven days a week, where shoppers can use the fast
self-checkout lanes.

“The commissary is open to serve you,” said Harry Nichols, Ramstein Commissary store director.

It’s a new shopping initiative exclusively at Ramstein Commissary meant
to cater to all shoppers’ needs, Mr. Nichols said. At Ramstein
Commissary, part of Defense Commissary Agency Europe, staffers have
wanted to open the store early for years to keep pace with the busy
schedules of shoppers. They got the go-ahead this month.

The scan-it-yourself technology allows shoppers to breeze in and out of
the store and a store assistant is always on hand to help, Mr. Nichols
said.
For now, the Early Bird shopping is a trial to see if there is interest, Mr. Nichols said.

“We want customers to come out and take advantage of this,” he said.
