The CG-4A was the primary combat glider for the United States Army Air Forces in World War II and one of two types of combat gliders used by the 435th Troop Carrier Group. Approximately 280 glider pilots formed the 435th Glider Combat Team, trained extensively on infantry weapons and tactics, and fought a key defensive action against a German counter-attack in a night fight nicknamed the “Battle of Burp Gun Corner.”
