“I don’t even know if it’s worth living anymore,” the Airman admitted, looking down at their feet.

The chaplain assistant takes a deep breath. At that moment he knew, he needed to help, yet couldn’t tell anyone else.

Recognizing suicidal ideations and engaging in privileged communication is one of the main responsibilities of the chaplain corps. Their words are their tools and their actions can potentially save lives.

Sky lights beam down on steel shelves stacked as high as the eye can see. Thousands of industrial boxes occupy the shelves, fitting together perfectly like pieces of a puzzle. The faint chatter of workers echoes across the vast rows and columns of the warehouse as Airmen inventory thousands of pieces of equipment. One Airman carefully forklifts one of the boxes down to the warehouse floor, opens it and begins counting its contents.

Germans will observe a religious holiday, “Pfingsten,” or Pentecost, Sunday and Monday. The religious fest takes its name from the Greek word “pentekoste” which means 50th. Christians celebrate Pentecost, also called Whitsun, the 50th day after Easter, because they believe that’s when God sent down His Holy Spirit.
