There are many different factors that serve as potential hazards while operating on an airfield. Weather, mechanical malfunction or terrorist acts are all major factors. However, human error such as carelessness, fatigue or inadequate training has proven to be at the top of this list.
It started in Vietnam. It gave hospitalized servicemembers something to do and took their minds off recovery. It still works today. Something as simple as a model airplane is putting smiles on the faces of injured servicemembers at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.
