Celebrating Advent is such a lovely opportunity to get together and enjoy the spirit of the season.

Wherever Mark Twain trod, his fans are sure to follow. They trek to the American author’s homes in Hannibal, Mo., and Hartford, Conn. They cruise along the great Mississippi River by steamboat. Above all, they travel by imagination, soaking up his written word.

Running full-speed at nosebleed elevations; traversing creeks, rocks and caves; scrambling over loose rock debris; and hiking up goat trails with walking sticks that resemble ski poles might seem crazy to some, but adventure racers — including one U.S. Army Reserve Soldier stationed in Europe — would race no other way.

Residents in Kaiserslautern County and the City of Kaiserslautern have specific dates for waste pickup. Usually, residents receive booklets listing pickup dates and tips for trash disposal.

The traditional pre-Christmas arts and crafts exhibition at the Ramstein-Miesenbach culture and convention center, the Haus des Bürgers, will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
