Commentary

Established by President Harry S. Truman in 1949, Armed Forces Day is a
way the nation can celebrate all of its service members on the same day.
The day was not only established to acknowledge the men and women who
wear the uniform, but to also serve as an opportunity for the services
to showcase the diversity of jobs we perform every day.

The Kaiserslautern Military Community Center is a superb facility and we are lucky to have it.

After a long and cold winter, warm spring weather is more than welcome
in the KMC. The sunshine and longer days give us all the impulse to get
outside and be active with our families and friends.

According to Safe Kids USA, March 8 marked the first child-related
vehicular tragedy of the year when a mother came out of work only to
realize she had left her 6-year-old daughter in the car.

Two weeks ago, I stressed the importance of constant readiness in light
of recent events around the world that call us, as military members, to
action.

I carry a well worn copy of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S.
Constitution and the Bill of Rights with me every day and refer to them
often. I think it is important for those of us who support and defend
the U.S. Constitution to be very familiar with these founding documents.
