The chaplain assistant takes a deep breath. At that moment he knew, he needed to help, yet couldn’t tell anyone else.

Recognizing suicidal ideations and engaging in privileged communication is one of the main responsibilities of the chaplain corps. Their words are their tools and their actions can potentially save lives.

Maj. Gen. Timothy M. Zadalis, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa vice commander, pays his respects at the gravestone for Gary Currie, an infant who lost his life in 1952, during the Ramstein Area Chiefs’ Group and German-American and International Women’s Club’s Kindergraves Memorial Service May 20 in Kaiserslautern.
