Several area schools saw their teams advance to the late rounds of this past weekend’s DODEA Europeans spring sports championships and two from Kaiserslautern won it all. The Kaiserslautern Lady Raiders won the school’s first-ever softball crown and the Kaiserslautern soccer boys repeated last year’s championship by securing another Division I crown.

Whether it’s a matchup like last weekend’s Ramstein vs. Kaiserslautern baseball doubleheader or heading into this weekend’s Europeans tournament, there is a constant drumbeat tracing to the Ramstein Royals and their five straight DODEA titles. Ramstein (10-4) swept their rivals in the final week of the regular season but both teams are on a path to possibly meet again at the Euros. Until someone beats them, Ramstein remains the king of the mountain.

Anchored by a two-hit pitching shutout from Kaleb Bellew in the opener, Ramstein swept a baseball doubleheader over Spangdahlem last weekend. The scores were 16-0 and 15-6, leaving Ramstein as the DODEA Division I frontrunner with two weekends of baseball remaining. Ramstein plays at Lakenheath this weekend, then at Kaiserslautern to end the regular season prior to the Europeans tournament.

Late run production was the key and Mariana Conklin went 4-for-4 batting, helping Kaiserslautern score a 12-6 win its softball opener against Lakenheath last weekend. The Lady Raiders won again in the second game, sweeping the Lady Lancers in preparation for a key series coming up this weekend at Stuttgart.

In a boys’ soccer matchup between the only remaining undefeated Division 1 schools, Ramstein got two goals from Chris Slover and won 3-1. The game happened on the Kaiserslautern High field, which is being shared by RHS and KHS this season. Ramstein’s win leaves them atop the Division I standings with a month left before the Europeans tournament.
