Recently awarded Best Standup Comedian at the Cleveland Comedy Festival, Prateek Srivastava headlines the Thursday Comedy Show Aug. 21 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Kazabra Club, Bldg. 2057 on Vogelweh. Feature Comedian is Shivani Davé, who is a NYC-based stand-up comic. Special guest is Shannan Hunt, who produces the “Ha Ha” Harvest Comedy Festival each November. Host is local comedian Erin Crouch. 9/11 Remembrance 5K Run
The Baumholder Intramural Sports Program is hosting a free 9/11 5k Remembrance Run Sep. 11 starting at 7 a.m. at the Hall of Champions Fitness Center, Bldg. 8105 on Smith Barracks in Baumholder. Registration starts at 6 a.m. on the day of the event at the Hall of Champions. The run will start at 7 a.m. This 5k run will include categories for adults, kids, people with dogs, and people with strollers. First, second and third medals will be awarded in the following categories: Adult male and female; and Youth 17 & under male and female. There will also be first medals awarded in the stroller pushers and runners with dogs’ categories. Junior Librarian
Landstuhl Library invites aspiring school-age librarians to curate a personalized book display for the community. Participants will select titles and share a brief biography along with the reasons behind their choices. Displays will remain showcased for one month. Volunteer Youth Sports Coaches
Volunteer youth sports coaches are needed for the Baumholder Youth Sports fall season. Coaches are needed for soccer, cheer, archery, bowling, volleyball, golf and flag football, ages 5-15. Summer Shred Challenge
A Fitbit Watch is the top prize for the 7-Day Summer Shred Challenge, held Aug. 15 to 22 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hall of Champions Physical Fitness Center, Bldg. 8105 on Smith Barracks in Baumholder. Registration is now until Aug. 14. Cost is $10. Initial weigh-in is Aug. 15 and final weigh-in is Aug. 22 at the Hall of Champions Fitness Center. Kaiserslautern’s End of Summer Car Show
Registration for the Kaiserslautern’s End of Summer Car Show is now to Sep. 6. Cost is $10 per vehicle. The car show is Sep. 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Pulaski Automotive Skills Center’s parking lot in front of building 2859 on Pulaski Barracks. Car-show participation for judging and prizes are open to all military affiliated ID card holders with or without SOFA status, to include: active duty, reserve, retired, veteran, family member, and DOD/DA/DAF civilians. Dog Obedience Training
Kaiserslautern Outdoor Recreation has dog obedience training starting at eight-weeks of age held Saturdays at the Kaiserslautern Outdoor Recreation Motor Pool, Bldg. 2902 on Pulaski Barracks. Classes are one hour, with time slots between 9 a.m. to noon depending on the size of the dog. Cost is $15 per dog. Enrollment is now open for SKIES Unlimited gymnastics for ages 1 to 18 in the Kaiserslautern Community. SOS Survivor Support Group
The Army Community Service Survivor Outreach Services hosts a SOS Survivor Support Group second Thursday of every month from 5 to 7 p.m. in Building 3820 (next to the Thrift Shop), second floor conference room on Landstuhl Post. Registration is required and must be done by 2 p.m. the day of the meeting by calling the ACS front desk at 531-2863/2851 or 0611-143-531-2863/2851. This is an ongoing monthly support group for surviving family members of deceased active duty service members.
Latin Nights at the Rheinlander!
The last Friday of the month is Latin Night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the ballroom of the Rheinlander Community Club, Bldg. 8085 on Smith Barracks. The Salsa Band Borinkuba will perform live several Latin music favorites, such as Salsa, Merengue and Bachata. Food is available from 8 to 11 p.m. This event is for those 18 and older, who are I.D. card holders. No cover charge.
