Now that winter is upon us, it’s a good time to review dress and appearance standards for certain cold weather clothing items. Gloves are authorized for wear-approved outer garments, or with the service dress, mess dress and semi-formal uniforms. When worn with the battle dress uniform and flight dress uniform, outer garments are not required. They must be black, and can be leather, knitted, tricot or suede, or any combination of those materials. Scarves may be worn tucked in with authorized outer garments. They must be black, and will not exceed 10 inches in width. Black earmuffs may be worn only with outer garments or the service dress uniform. For more information, consult AFI 36-2903.
