George Brown (right), U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz’s director of emergency services, and Andreas Grawert, the garrison’s deputy fire chief, pay their respects to fallen German soldiers during a Nov. 17 ceremony in Otterbach for “Volkstrauertag,” the people’s day of mourning. Garrison Commander Col. Bryan DeCoster took part in a wreath laying at the cemetery in Kaiserslautern, while Command Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Kraus, the garrison’s senior enlisted leader, took part in a ceremony in Germersheim. The public holiday in Germany commemorates all those who died in armed conflicts.
