Freinsheim holds blossom fest

The wine growing community of Freinsheim will celebrate its annual blossom fest under the motto, “Cooking, Arts, Wine,” Saturday and Sunday. The town will present the new season’s wines and visitors have the opportunity to talk to vintners. Surrounded by an ocean of blossoms, visitors will find a large diversity of culinary specialties, wines and art items throughout the medieval town.

Food specialties include potato pancakes with salmon, trout, pancakes with spinach and sheep cheese, prime boiled beef with horseradish sauce, fresh oysters, salmon rolls with salad, pork filet with asparagus, Thai food and
cakes.

The I-Punkt Freinsheim (Tourist Information office) and participating wineries will sell wine passes for €12. This pass will authorize visitors to taste the offered wines on both days.

Wine Princess Kristina and a local band will officially open the fest at 11:30 a.m. on both days at the historical town hall. Guided hiking tours along the trails with trees in blossom will follow right after the official opening.
Wagon rides with Haflinger horses are scheduled to start at noon from the Kreuzhof winery.

The arts studio in Buschhof will display modern arts and serve Mediterranean food.
Various artists will show off their works and paintings in some of the wineries.
Children can have fun in a carnival set up in Weisenheimer Strasse near the Iron Gate. The toy museum will exhibit a collection of old toys.

The Baroque garden invites visitors to take a walk along the medieval town wall.
To get to Freinsheim, travel on autobahn A6 direction Mannheim; take the Grünstadt exit; follow the signs to Kirchheim, Dackenheim and Freinsheim.
