KMC chorus kicks off holiday season

There’s that co-worker again.  You know the one.  He’s always humming a tune.  She’s always softly singing to herself.  Lately the tunes have been classical in sound … sort of reminds you of “The Hallelujah Chorus.”  Or … what’s the Christmas tune?  “For Unto Us A Child is Born.”

That could be because your co-workers and friends from all over the KMC have been coming together for months to put together the first annual community chorus presentation of Handel’s “The Messiah.” The performance will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Ramstein North Chapel.

“The concert is a selection of pieces from the Christmas section of ‘The Messiah,’” said Senior Airman Matthew Fuger, director of the chorus. “It will be a great hour to kick-start the holiday season.”

The chorus and accompanying orchestra consists of 35 members from the KMC area.

“The musicians have been working on this production since August, so everyone is really excited for performance night,” Airman Fuger said.

Donna Trachier, a contracted chapel musician and alto soloist, sang in the chorus last year and came back to sing again this year.

“We have some great talent this year! The voices combined with the chamber orchestra sound amazing,” she said.

Even local high school students have gotten involved in the performance this year.
“The Messiah concert we’re putting on has been in the works for a while, and I think everyone will really enjoy seeing it. I know I’ve enjoyed preparing for it,” said Gustav Meyners, a junior at Ramstein High School.

Admission to the concert is free and selections will include “And the Glory of the Lord,” “For Unto Us a Child is Born” and “The Hallelujah Chorus.”
