Musicians of the German Army Band Koblenz, the Dixie Group of Luxembourg’s Military Band and the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Big Band rehearse in Koblenz for a joint appearance June 20 at the Kammgarn Kaiserslautern.

The musicians of the German Army Band Koblenz, the Dixie Group of Luxembourg’s Military Band and the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Big Band will present a joint Jazz Night June 20 at the Kammgarn Cultural Center in Kaiserslautern.

Each of these professional musicians have performed individually on countless stages, but never have they performed during a joint session. On this occasion, they will first perform individually in the Kammgarn Casino and then rock the audience as a multinational NATO Jazz Night Band.

To prepare this event, 24 military musicians from three nations recently met at Koblenz to rehearse their joint appearance on stage. It was important to familiarize all of the participants since the three band leaders will take turns in directing the joint band performances.

Adjutant major Christian Kirpes, director of the Luxembourg Dixieland Band, was not the only one pleased with the outcome of the rehearsal.

“For months we have now been planning this event,” Kirpes said. “The musicians were excited to see how this joint rehearsal would go. Now they are very much looking forward to the actual event on June 20 at Kammgarn Kaiserslautern.”

The NATO Jazz Night is the successor event to the NATO Music Festival, which was organized jointly by the City of Kaiserslautern and NATO’s Air Command on Ramstein from 1965 to 2011. The focus of this new event idea will be on jazz music. The venue and organizer of the NATO Jazz Night 2015 is Kammgarn Kaiserslautern. NATO Jazz Night proceeds go to the NATO Music Festival Foundation in support of charitable and non-profit projects.
