Rockenhausen hosts fall fest

The City of Rockenhausen in the northern part of the Pfalz will hold its traditional fall festival Saturday to Monday. The event features a wine fest, farmers market, triathlon, music and dance performances, and children’s activities.

The first Rocky-Man-Triathlon will start Saturday’s activities at 10 a.m. Interested participants can sign in at 8:30 a.m. at the Obermühle stadium. Swimming will be 0.3 kilometers, bicycling 15 km and running 3 km. For details, visit www.triathlon-vt-rockenhausen.de.

The North Palatinate Historical Association will present medieval heroes at its 31st symposium at 2:30 p.m. in Donnersberghalle on Brühlgasse 21.

Children can take part in the third duck race at 3 p.m. on Alsenz River in Bezirksamtsstrasse. The Schlosspark will be the main stage of events starting at 6 p.m. Culinary and wine specialties will be served at stands, and at 8 p.m. the party band getup will provide entertainment in the fest tent on Brühlgasse. Tickets cost €10.

On Sunday, the farmers market will open at noon to offer regional products and food specialties. Stores will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. and the big fest parade through the center of town will begin at 2 p.m.

Show dance groups will perform at 3:30 p.m. in the Schlosspark and regional bands will perform until 9:30 p.m. in the tent.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the town and visit the four local museums: Museum Pachen on Speyerstrasse 3, displaying arts of the 20th century; Museum For Time, displaying church and tower clocks (Am Schloss 10); the North Palatinate Museum, presenting local history (Bezirksamtsstrasse 8); and Kahnweilerhaus on Marktplatz 7, displaying art objects such as two lithographs by Picasso.

On Monday, lunch will be served at noon in the fest tent. Visitors again will have the chance to try various wines from local vintners. A lantern parade leading from Schulzentrum to Schlosspark at 8 p.m. and the following fireworks display will close out fall fest. Musical entertainment by the local singing association’s band will continue at 9 p.m. in the fest tent. Admission is free.
