1st CBCS gives back to KMC

A recent initiative by the members of one flight in the 1st Combat Communications Squadron improved the efficiency and effectiveness of a number of base agencies.

The 1st Combat Communications’ Alpha Flight Airmen unified their volunteer efforts to assist agencies, creating the “Give Back” program. The program “gives back” to the agencies and programs that support the KMC, while creating opportunities for Airmen to lead their fellow Airmen in the community.

“It is amazing how such a small effort by a group of individuals can be so beneficial for the KMC,” said Senior Airman Jared Walker, 1st CBCS satellite communications technician.

Each project has enabled team members to spend quality time together, which allows them to grow as a team, before they deploy.  This aspect of team building plays an important role because all members of the 1st Combat Communications Squadron are always on standby to deploy within 72 hours.

“In my six years in the military, I have never seen such enthusiasm towards volunteering. The “Give Back” program continues to bring the flight together as a team while helping the community,” said Staff Sgt. Jeremiah Zugg, 1st CBCS satellite communications technician.

Over 45 days, the “Give Back” program has amassed 137 volunteers, committing a total of 717 hours back into the community. Organizations such as the base post office, USO, 86th Airlift Wing dormitories, Landstuhl Elementary School and the Fisher House have all reaped the benefits of the new program.  Flight members are seeking out additional community programs needing assistance.

“In a time where the Air Force is cutting back on its number of personnel, this outstanding flight has taken it upon themselves to reach out to the community and lend a helping hand,” said Lt. Col. Joe Sublousky, 1st CBCS commander. “Helping out those in need is something every squadron member should do and this fantastic team of individuals is representing us in a great way.”
