More than 100 senior leaders from the 21st Theater Sustainment Command and its subordinate units, met for the 2018 Second Quarter Senior Leadership Forum, Jan. 9 to 10, at the Armstrong Club on Vogelweh Housing Complex.

The two-day forum was hosted by the 21st TSC command team and kicked off with opening remarks from Maj. Gen. Steven A. Shapiro, 21st TSC commanding general, and Command Sgt. Maj. Alberto Delgado, 21st TSC senior enlisted advisor. The forum serves as the command’s regular six-month self assessment. This iteration included topics such as “Keys to Success,” “Command Philosophies,” and the “21st Mission Vision and Center of Gravity.”

“It’s vital that we have a battle rhythm that keeps us accountable,” Shapiro said during his opening remarks. “We synchronize with our strategic partners, empower our junior leaders, and as senior leaders, we are setting the conditions for success.”

The forum was not just an opportunity for 21st leaders to hear directly from the command team, but also an opportunity to hear from one another in 45-minute break-out briefings regarding upcoming missions.

“We have a very specific mission set with financial management,” said Lt. Col. Steven Smith, 266th Financial Management Support Center deputy director. “So we look at how the operations that we are planning right now are going to impact potential financial issues later. Forums like this help us at 266th plan and prepare better ways to serve the Soldiers of the 21st.”

This was the second senior leadership forum Shapiro has hosted since taking command June 2017, but is an ongoing tradition for the 21st TSC.

“One of the paramount reasons why an event like this is very important, is the synchronization you have amongst all of the leaders,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Jonathan Uribe, 16th Special Troops Battalion senior enlisted advisor. “It’s very busy in this theater and this is an opportunity for us to network, communicate and make sure we are synchronized with the same vision as we approach the challenges we have ahead.”
