Chief Master Sergeant Debra Snyder, the computer systems Air Force career field manager, visited Ramstein recently on invitation from the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.

The chief took the opportunity to speak to her troops during a “3C Call.”
“I’m talking to our troops about communication and information force development,” said Chief Snyder. “The Air Force is evolving from a cold war force to an expeditionary force. We need to focus our corps on a tactical and strategic level to perform our mission.”

Chief Snyder pointed to her experience as a junior enlisted in the communications computer systems, or “3C,” career field in explaining the transition of the force.

“We didn’t deploy the way Airmen deploy today,” she said. “We couldn’t send a large mainframe computer downrange; so only a couple career fields, like radio operators, deployed.”
Airmen at the 3C Call said it was good to hear talk about where the 3C career field is.
“It was very informative to hear her talk about the health of the career field – a lot of people had questions about it,” said Staff Sgt. Jay Akerson, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe assistant NCOin charge of engineering and installation. “People left feeling a lot better about where they stood.”

“I was confident now knowing the Air Force is looking at our career field and updating it as the processes change,” said Airman 1st Class Erick Greene, HQ USAFE engineering and installation liaison.

While in the KMC area, Chief Snyder visited many of the shops to rub elbows with some of the 3C troops. The chief said it was important for the 3C Airmen to feel appreciated.

“All of the Air Force operating missions for communication are in-garrison here,” she said. “The professionalism I’ve seen associated with our mission is impressive – there was a lot of energy and motivation in the troops,” she said.
