435th CS wins awards

The 435th Communications Squadron recently won the 2006 U.S. Air Forces in Europe Maj. Gen. Harold M. McClelland Award. The award recognizes large units for sustained superior performance and professional excellence while managing core communications and information functions.

“Our base-level communicators are not only tackling the challenges posed by supporting a major aerial port operation handling OIF and OEF deployment, cargo, and medevac responsibilities, but they’re also leading the way on Air Force- and DOD-level issue,” said Lt. Col. Amy Dayton, 435th CS commander.

In addition to the McClelland Award, the 435th CS Ramstein Postal Operations team was named USAFE’s best large postal facility, and three of its personnel, Tech. Sgt. Jason Simpson, Senior Airman William Coppedge and Daniel Checotah, were named USAFE’s best Postal Service NCO, Airman and civilian assistant, respectively. Staff Sgt. Julian Garcia, 435th CS Information Systems Flight, was also named the best Information Assurance program manager in USAFE.
