568 SFS came into Monday’s games with their backs against the wall. They had one loss already and were trying to get out of the losers bracket and into the championship.

They responded with a 6-2 rout of the CC.AIR.1 team and advanced to the championship against 435 MMS. Corey Duggan and Emilio Seda each scored two goals for 568 SFS in the game.

The 435 MMS team was the highest scoring team in the league and cruised undefeated through the tournament. They looked poised to take the title.

568 SFS took the first championship game 3-1 on a strong effort by goalie Horst Helig. Helig, who works different shifts for security forces, missed a few games during the season and in the tournament.

“The only reason we lost any games this year was because we didn’t have our goalie,” said Antonio Delgado, 568 SFS coach.

In the final game 568 SFS held on for a 2-1 victory again on strong goaltending by Helig. They also got a goal from Corey Duggan.

“We just couldn’t put the ball in the net,” said Ranson Coleman, 435 MMS coach and player. We had a lot of scoring opportunities, but they made some key saves.”

The 568 SFS team was awarded with plaques after their victory and will look to defend their title next year.

“Our spirit and overall dedication is why we won,” said Delgado. “We took it one game at a time and just had fun.”
