82nd Airborne Division airlifted to ‘battlefront’ for exercise Swift Response 19

Paratroopers assigned to 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, approach a C-17 Globemaster III assigned to the 204th Airlift Squadron, Hawaii Air National Guard, June 13, 2019, at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. The airborne Soldiers and a formation of international aircraft flew to Bulgaria to practice a joint forcible entry operation with international forces for exercise Swift Response 19. The annual training event is led by U.S. Army Europe and entails a series of airborne operations in Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania from June 13-25. Swift Response allows allies to connect – personally, professionally, technically and tactically – to create stronger, more capable forces during times of crisis.

 

Hawaii Air National Guard pilots assigned to the 204th Airlift Squadron, fly a C-17 Globemaster III toward Ramstein Air Base, Germany, June 14 ,2019. The aircrew airdropped soldiers and equipment assigned to the 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade as part of exercise Swift Response 19. The nighttime operation was one of several training activities which enable participants to hone the skills necessary to act as part of an international fighting force. This year’s iteration of Swift Response includes service members from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Swift Response promotes regional stability and security, while increasing readiness, strengthening partner capabilities and fostering trust. 

 

The delivery of equipment and personnel was held to validate U.S. European Command’s ability to send high-readiness forces into a designated area while advancing airborne interoperability among NATO allies. The annual exercise is one of the premier military crisis response training events for multinational airborne forces in the world.
