86th MDG enhances Nurse Advice Line

86th Medical Group

The 86th Medical Group recently enhanced the TRICARE Nurse Advice Line in an effort to provide the KMC with more efficient medical services. The NAL offers 24/7 year-round access to experienced, professional nurses who can guide you through research-based medical information and treatment recommendations.

Why use this service?

If you are not a health care professional, it can be difficult to determine what to do in the event of an injury or illness. When you are unsure, the NAL gives you the opportunity to learn what level of care is appropriate for the given situation.

Many hours spent in emergency departments can be alleviated by calling the NAL and getting the same home treatment that an
emergency department will provide.

By the same token, what seems to be a minor problem can be identified as a potentially emergent situation.

Not only will the NAL optimize your time by providing you with on the spot recommendations, but it will also facilitate care for you if referrals or appointments are needed.

All interactions with NAL personnel will be annotated in your medical record. The NAL professionals can help you understand medical conditions, help you prepare questions for doctor visits, and answer questions about prescriptions or over-the-counter medications.

How do I use this service?

The recent change to the Ramstein appointment line’s telephone tree allows patients an early option to obtain medical advice.

To use the NAL during duty hours, call the appointment line at 06371-46-CARE (2273) or 479-2273 and select option three. During non-business hours or days when the clinic is closed, call 00800-4759-2330 or 0800-825-1600.

For additional questions about this service, contact Maj. Christopher Bender at 06371-46-2292 or 479-2292.
