The Kapaun Southside Post Office celebrated the installation of the new intel locker system with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, introducing a new era of computerized postal service for military members stationed overseas at Kapaun Air Station, May 11.
Kapaun Air Station is the first installation within U.S. Air Forces in Europe to implement the new package locker system. The modernized intel locker system is designed to expand access for service members who work around the clock, improving customer satisfaction and optimizing operations.
The ceremony was hosted by U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Kaylin Price, 786th Force Support Squadron postmaster, and members of the Kapaun Southside postal team. Kapaun leadership, unit commanders, civilian staff and other community guests were in attendance.

Price explained the new lockers modernize package delivery by allowing customers to retrieve their packages without waiting in line during normal operating hours.
“The success of the Kapaun intel lockers will lead to the expansion of the system to other post offices,” Price said. “Similarly, Ramstein is currently working on its own locker system to join in on the modernization.”
The lockers will provide 24-hour access to packages, operating on a QR code system. The change will assist shift workers and overnight personnel who struggle to pick up their packages before the post office closes.

Price said that installing this locker system also cuts down on wait time, and will minimize the chaos for Airmen working behind the counter, in an effort to fulfill package requests as quickly as possible.
“This will help [service members] to be able to pick up their packages and not have to rush all the way here or leave work early just to make it before we close,” said Senior Airman Takemi Kian Carbajal, 786th FSS postal worker.
According to Price, the idea for the lockers originated in 2024 as postal workers searched for ways to improve efficiency and address limited storage space within the facility. The process of bringing the lockers to fruition involved coordination between postal workers, contractors, civil engineers and other agencies to transport and install the system in Germany.
“I love things coming into fruition. It feels really nice to be able to see something come through,” Price said
The Kapaun Southside Post Office leadership expressed the consideration of opening up lockers to more than just shift workers and overnight personnel to ease the foot traffic during the holiday seasons. Quality of life is essential to the mission impact, and these new ideas help maintain access to key infrastructures that support Airmen and their families.
