After a successful premier in 2015, Nanstein Castle in Landstuhl will be, for the second time, the stage for castle event days today through Sunday.

Organizers want to present the concept of a living castle this year.

The official opening of the medieval market will be at 6 p.m. today. Vendors will sell their merchandise and craftsmen will show off their medieval skills. Inside the tavern yard there will be musicians and dance performances. Light artists will illuminate the castle after dark. Admission on the opening day is free.

Saturday and Sunday, castle event activities will start at 11 a.m. A parade with participants in medieval costumes will walk into the area in the afternoon. Visitors will experience how people used to live in the Middle Ages. A falconer will present his birds of prey. Children can take part in various activities such as archery, knights’ games and a swing boat.

Vendors’ stands are set up around Nanstein Castle in Landstuhl to demonstrate medieval life during the castle event days today through Sunday.

Jugglers, market screamers and musicians will entertain the audience. Medieval eating and drinking specialties will be served. Saturday night, the castle will be illuminated again.

Sunday, guided tours through the castle and the knights’ camp will start at 11 a.m.

At 5 p.m., visitors will commemorate Franz, “the last knight,” who died at Nanstein Castle 492 years ago. Actors will perform the knight’s dying scene and the siege of the castle.

Admission fee is €5 for adults and €3 for visitors in medieval costumes Saturday and Sunday. Children shorter than a sword will be admitted free of charge.
