Analog AFN service to be discontinued on-base as of July 22, 2014
Starting Tuesday July 22, 2014, AFN cable television will be upgraded to an all-digital service at Spangdahlem Air Base. Existing on-base analog AFN cable TV broadcasts will be permanently decommissioned base-wide at that time.
To tune-in to AFN digital, a set-top box is required. These devices can be obtained at the TKS shop located inside the Spangdahlem main Exchange. Boxes can be leased on a month-to-month basis to provide AFN channels only, or in combination with TKS easyTV which includes all AFN channels. A monthly subscription to easyTV Basic with 47 channels starts at €19.95 a month.

AFN digital and easyTV
The transition to digital AFN and TKS cable television service on-base delivers major improvements in picture and audio quality and also makes a number of enhanced features possible. Viewers benefit from on-screen menus for channel navigation and live programing guides. It is possible to record all of your favorite shows, and also pause and rewind live TV using a DVR hard drive (digital video recorder).
easyTV is the digital entertainment service with the top movie, sports, and entertainment networks direct from the U.S. and it includes all currently available AFN channels. It features over 100 cable networks, 48 HD channels, plus AFN Sports HD.
Viewers can tune in to popular American networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, A&E, Nickelodeon, and Discovery; Starz and Encore movie channels; and to college and major league sports with Fox Sports 1, MLB Network, NFL Network, and NBA TV.
