The game featured the best flag football teams in the KMC, as the winners from the Air Force and Army intramural leagues squared off in a battle of champions.

The game pitted the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Regional Supply Squadron, representing the Air Force with a 13-1 record, against the Army’s Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, with a 22-1 record.

“Both teams looked good and it was an exciting game. But the Air Force just didn’t do enough to win the game,” said Isaac Melendez, 435th Services Squadron intramural director.

The Army’s scores came on a first half touchdown by Calvin Perkins and a second half touchdown by Byron Wells.

The Air Force’s lone score came on a touchdown pass from quarterback Kevin Stiff to wide receiver Cedric Windgard.

With the victory the Army doesn’t earn an award or a trophy, but they earn bragging rights until next year and can call themselves “the best in the KMC.”

The success of the event didn’t go unnoticed as Army and Air Force intramural leagues plan to host inter-service rivalry games for all intramural sports in the future.

“We have been trying to put this together for years, and it finally came together,” said Melendez. “The Army hosted a wonderful event, and it was a great morale booster for both services.”
