Awareness month focuses on alcohol abuse

Heather Robinson
U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern Employee Assistance Coordinator

April is Alcohol Awareness Month. Sponsored by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence since 1987, this observance encourages local communities to focus on alcoholism and alcohol-related issues.

The U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern’s Army Substance Abuse Program and Employee Assistance Program offer non-clinical and clinical services for alcohol and drug use, abuse and dependency. These services are offered to Soldiers, retirees, civilians and their family members.

Anyone can be at risk to develop alcohol-related problems. Genetics, peer groups (all ages), family attitudes and social norms contribute to one’s individual risk level.

The USAGK ASAP prevention coordinator will be offering screenings and information throughout the month at all presentations. For more information on Alcohol Awareness Month or to participate in a confidential screening, contact Heather Robinson at 486-1710.
