Bayerfeld-Steckweiler hosts medieval market

The seventh medieval spring market in Bayerfeld-Steckweiler will take place Saturday and Sunday.

The market, hosted by a medieval group Freie Rittergruppe Alsenztal, will be set up on Schlossbergstrasse.

A variety of marketeers, craftsmen, jugglers, musicians, knights and damsels of a castle will revive the Middle Ages. They will show visitors how people lived, worked and celebrated in former times.

Items available for sale include weapons, helmets, medieval clothes, wooden toys, wool and leather products, jewelry, historical instruments, soap and honey.

Craftsmanship presentations will include ironwork and historical construction with clay.

Different knights’ groups showing off various skills can be found in the kinghts’ camp. The Stolzenburger will present show fights, archery, coin minting and a fire show. Juggler Laurent from France, witches and the music group Donner and Doria will lure people with entertaining performances. Baderey Sudhaus, a bathing house from the Middle Ages, will offer baths in hot tubs.

Typical medieval food will be served in a tavern. Almonds and crepes will be offered as well.

Market times are from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
