Bike marathon in August

The Zentrum Pfälzerwald Touristik sponsors its third bike marathon in the Pfälzerwald Mountain Bike Park Aug. 8 and 9.

The event will start and finish at the Sägmühle camping and leisure center near Trippstadt, Neuhöfertal, in the middle of the Pfälzerwald and North Vosges biosphere reservation.

***image1***The event is not conducted as a race. It is simply a marathon for those who like sports.

The route consists of many single trails and goes along the forest paths of the Pfälzerwald Mountain Bike Park.

Three rounds are offered plus an additional kids’ trail, which will be accompanied by Udo Bölts, a former biking pro.

There is the marathon short distance with 42 kilometers, the marathon middle distance with 73 kilometers, and the marathon long distance with 101 kilometers. The trail for children 6 to 13 years old is 15 kilometers.

All rounds pass the central location on the camping ground, where bikers can get food and drinks, and where they can decide if and how to continue.

The starting fee is €29 (including an exclusive starter package) for registration until Tuesday, and €35 for registration from Tuesday until Aug. 5. Late registration is not possible. Children can register at the starting location on the day of the event for €4. Children must wear helmets. The total number of participants is limited to 700.

A display with products and information on biking, outfits and tourism in Pfälzerwald is set up at the event location.

The event starts with a pasta party at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 to be followed by an entertaining program with live music. Starting numbers will be given out from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 8 and 7 to 9 a.m. Aug. 9. The bike marathon starts at 9:30 a.m. and at 10 a.m. for children.

Visitors can also relax at the camping and leisure center and take a swim in the lake.

To get to the Sägmühle camping and leisure center (www.saegmuehle.de), travel from Vogelweh on federal street B270 toward Pirmasens. Exit to the left at the sign Karlstal/Trippstadt. Then follow the camping signs.
