BOSS open to all

KMC and 86th Airlift Wing commander

***image1***The KMC is bustling with several options for those assigned here. There are friendship groups, official and unofficial clubs, and a group I recently visited, Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers.

Although it’s a Department of the Army program, it is open to all members of our KMC joint service community.

BOSS was founded by the U.S. Army in 1989, and over the years has developed into a three-pillared organization that helps single and unaccompanied servicemembers with recreation and leisure, community service and well-being issues.

More than 200 KMC Airmen, Soldiers and Sailors are part of BOSS.  You can join or receive more information by contacting Spc. Vinnette Giscombe at 489-7239 or by e-mail at vinnette.giscombe@eur.army.mil.

The organization has been involved in several community projects including adopting a local road, volunteering at the Army Community Service Family Fun Night, the Back to School Blast and at dozens of other events. BOSS also opened a recreation center on Miesau Army Depot this past year. It is no surprise that BOSS was awarded the KMC Volunteer Organization of the Year Award this year for the second year in a row.

One of the organization’s largest events, Single Servicemember’s Day, is today from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Pulaski Park on Pulaski Barracks. The day includes an array of sport activities such as basketball, kickball, a bungee run and a dunk tank.

I am often out and about in the KMC and sometimes hear people comment about a lack of activities to enjoy.  I encourage all single servicemembers to enhance their free time and get involved with BOSS. It is a great outlet for meeting new people and getting involved in the community.
