Gladiator Fights in the Amphitheater
Once again, the historical Amphitheater will be transformed into a battle arena when Roman gladiators start swinging their fists. Now for the 9th time in 2010, the festival “Bread & Circuses” will present hands-on history when the Amphitheater’s past will come alive again with its gladiator fights.

Unique worldwide and based on scholarship, the mixture of entertainment and athletics will be presented by artists, performers, and professional gladiators in the great arena to perform the artistry of Roman gladiator fights according to the most up-to-date historical knowledge. The staging will demonstrate boxing and wrestling as well as gladiator fights with various weapons and from different centuries.

Roman Life in the Imperial Baths
Trier will enliven this ancient UNESCO World Heritage site for an entire weekend with Roman, Celts, and Germanic tribes. The performers will pitch their tents on the sports ground, and legionaries will conduct mock battles in their splendid armament, present different battle strategies or chat about daily life in the Roman Army. Craftsmen will offer their wares and musicians will provide music for fun and entertainment.

The taverns will offer visitors refreshments with fascinating dishes and drinks from the Roman era; the little visitors will also be provided for when they learn Celtic games and experience Roman everyday life.

Mystic Night in the Subterranean Passages
Antiquity and the modern will meet in the “Mystic Night”: the subterranean service passages of the Imperial Baths will become a mysterious underworld through light and sound installations.
