“I never expected this, I just wanted to help the community and keep the children safe,” said Vendetta Goodman when she was surprised with a commander’s coin from Col. Jaimie Smyser, 435th Mission Support Group commander. Ms. Goodman dedicated more than 250 hours volunteering as a crosswalk monitor at Landstuhl Elementary and Middle School.

“Ms. Goodman is a hero in my book, but nothing eliminates the responsibility of motorists to obey driving rules,” said Colonel Smyser.

***image5***It is not unusual to be in a hurry in this time-sensitive world, but do not let it get the better of your common sense, Colonel Smyser said.

Motorists can help crosswalk volunteers by exercising extreme caution in areas where children are frequently present and maintain increased vigilance where crosswalk monitors are not available.

lKMC schools are in need of crosswalk volunteers, especially at Landstuhl Elementary and Middle School. It takes about 30 minutes.
