Calling all retirees: RAO accepting applications for new director

The Retiree Activities Office, a volunteer-based organization that supports retirees, active-duty members, and spouses throughout the Kaiserslautern Military Community, has an immediate opening for a new director.

The KMC boasts the largest retiree community outside the U.S. with approximately 4,000 individuals choosing to remain in the local area after leaving active duty.  The RAO functions as a liaison between the retiree population and the 86th Airlift Wing commander.  The team falls directly under the leadership of the wing’s vice commander.

“The RAO director is an important volunteer position and provides the platform required to necessitate the needs of supporting our retiree community,” said Col. Matt Husemann, 86th AW vice commander.

The RAO organizes regular seminars about how to retire in Germany, how to navigate Veteran’s Affairs benefits and Tricare, and how to obtain information for a surviving spouse. The current team of volunteers have several years of experience and can assist anyone willing to step into this leadership role.

Husemann says he is looking for an energetic retiree to fulfill the role as director.

“The RAO director must be someone who wants to continue being involved in our community.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about retirees and willing to help others navigate life beyond active duty,” said Husemann.
