About 40 miles north of the KMC, above the village of Staudernheim on a hill between the confluence of the Glan and Nahe rivers, the ruins of a once-thriving abbey sleep among oaks and ivy slowly deteriorating the stones.
Once upon a time, a legend says, two giants lived in the Odenwald forest, now just south of Darmstadt. One lived on the hilltop and one in the valley, and they argued over who owned the hillside. They began tossing boulders at each other, and eventually the valley giant was buried on the hillside beneath a sea of boulders.
The German-American Friendship Association Siegelbach starts the second semester of German classes the last week of August and first week of September.
Since June 1, guests in restaurants, cafés and pubs in Sweden can enjoy smoke-free air. According to the German automobile club ADAC, smoking is prohibited in all facilities, where drinks and meals are served. Smoking is still allowed in the outdoor areas of these places.
The 431st Services Squadron is showing its appreciation to the German Bundeswehr by hosting a German and American Friendship Fest from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sembach Combined Club.
