Keith Igyarto, U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz commander (center right), and Konstantin Gross, USAG RP Environmental engineer (far right), present a Green Boot certificate to Sharon O'Donnell, Ramstein High School principal (center); Lauren Jones, RHS Environmental Club president (center left); and Glenn Porter, RHS physical education teacher and Green Boot Program manager, Feb. 15 at RHS. The school chose energy reduction and awareness as its primary focus areas and reduced energy consumption by 0.89 percent, equaling thousands of dollars of savings due to the conscientious use of energy in the 136,805-square-foot school facility.

Friday, Feb. 10, was a cold, dreary day on Ramstein. A blanket of dark clouds eclipsed the sun and sky, shutting out the light and dappling the landscape with delicate snow. Anybody would have wanted to stay inside and succumb to the stillness of a grave winter morning.

The event was put on by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, a nonprofit international organization that seeks to develop networks between people involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by creating a medium for the ethical exchange of information.

Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark, 3rd Air Force commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Phillip Easton, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa command chief, receive a brief from Staff Sgt. McKenzie Lauber, 1st Combat Communications Squadron combat readiness instructor, during an immersion tour of the 435th Air Ground Operations Wing Feb. 3 on Ramstein. Clark and Easton toured squadrons within the wing’s three local groups, ate lunch with several 435 AGOW Airmen and spoke at a commander’s call during the tour.

Airmen assigned to the 435th Contingency Response Group work together to build a tent during exercise Austere Forge Feb. 1 on Ramstein. During the exercise, the Airmen planned what equipment would be used and who would be going, readied the equipment and personnel, processed through the 86th Logistic Readiness Squadron’s installation deployment readiness cell and set up tents and equipment in a simulated deployed location. The 435 CRG participated in the exercise to practice their capability to deploy within 72 hours.
