Under Secretary Westphal visits wounded warriors
It was a trip to look, listen and give thanks that led Under Secretary
of the Army Joseph W. Westphal to Afghanistan and Germany over the
Thanksgiving holidays.
Joined by Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Lloyd
J. Austin III, Westphal shared a holiday meal in Afghanistan with
Soldiers facing what he said is the critical task of training
Afghanistan forces in preparation for the 2014 withdrawal of NATO
forces. The transition, he said, is going well.

COMUSAFE, command chief address headquarters staff
Gen. Philip M. Breedlove, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces
Africa commander, and Command Chief Master Sgt. Craig A. Adams held
their first USAFE-AFAFRICA all-call Nov. 13 on Ramstein to praise
personnel for their achievements and address issues impacting the Air
Force.

Secondhand smoke: a danger in the air
Secondhand smoke is a mixture of the smoke from the burning end of a
cigarette, pipe or cigar combined with the smoke breathed out by a
smoker. People breathe in secondhand smoke when they are near others who
are smoking. Secondhand smoke is also known as environmental tobacco
smoke, passive, side-stream smoke or involuntary smoke.

Antibiotic resistance is a worldwide public health problem. Resistance
occurs when bacteria can no longer be killed by a previously effective
antibiotic and the bacteria continue to grow. According to the Alliance
for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics, if resistance to treatment continues
to spread, our globally connected world may find itself back in the
dark ages of medicine
