The first day of school is an exciting and emotional day for both parents and children. Department of Defense Dependent Schools realizes the importance of this initial step into formal education and makes a very special and unique effort to provide a smooth transition for the children of full-day kindergarten programs, Sure Start programs and pre-school by scheduling home visits.
Before enrolling in a Department of Defense Dependent school, students are required to have up-to-date vaccinations
While these immunizations are required to attend DOD schools, military services, not the schools, are responsible for giving students their immunizations.

Sembach Middle School was recently recognized for achievement as an Advancement Via Individual Determination demonstration school. The school has been recognized each year since 2001.
The KMC high schools recently announced the valedictorians and salutatorians for the graduating class of 2004.

Ramstein High School had a unique set of graduates this year, 21 students who had attended Department of Defense Education Activity schools their entire lives.Several of the students spoke about their Department of Defense Dependent Schools experiences.
Due to continuing deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, many servicemembers with graduating seniors will miss graduation ceremonies this year.
Ramstein American High School will be sending three graduating seniors to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. this year. Kenny Grosselin, Chris Steel and Collette Bannister will report in June as members of the class of 2008.
