Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

For more than 30 years, the United States has annually celebrated the history and cultural traditions of the nation’s Hispanic people. The weeks of Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 have been set aside to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. KMC servicemembers and their families are invited to celebrate with special events and activities.

Did You Know?

 • Hispanic is a term denoting a derivation from Spain, its people and culture
 • More than 40 million Hispanics live in the U.S.
 • Hispanics are the U.S.’s largest ethnic minority
 • Hispanics constitute 13.7 percent of the U.S. population
 • Gen. Richard E. Cavazos became the U.S. Army’s first Hispanic four-star general    
 • Col. Manuel J. Fernández Jr. flew 125 combat missions in the Korean War

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the following events:

• Members of the Hispanic Heritage Club will have “Story Time in Spanish” for children at the Vogelweh Library from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Vogelweh Library for Family Night at 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 22, Ramstein Library from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 28, Ramstein Library for Family Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2 and at the Sembach Library from 11 a.m. to noon Oct. 5.
• Dance the night away at the Enlisted Club’s Latin Night Sept. 15. The event is open to all ranks.  Entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. and an open dance floor at 9 p.m. Check out the Hispanic Heritage Club’s booth at Latin Night.
• The club will host a breakfast burrito sale Sept. 22. To pre-order for your work center, contact Staff Sgt. Maria Duluc at

• The Hispanic Heritage Observance Banquet will be held Oct. 14 at the Ramstein Officers’ Club.  There will be a social hour starting at 6 p.m., and dinner at 7 p.m. After dinner guests will be entertained by Hispanic dancers from several regions across the globe. Tickets will be available in mid-September.
