Classes and training
Learn about the environment and geology. The University of Maryland University College offers classes at Kapaun Air Station beginning in June. Classes include Environmental Geology (GEOL-120) for three credit hours – 5 to 7:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and Introduction to Physical Geology Lab (GEOL-110) for one credit hour -10 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Do you know what nitrates are and why they are not welcome in drinking water? American military experts (Bioenvironmental Engineering, 435th Medical Group and 735th Civil Engineer Squadron) have discovered nitrates in the drinking water in the Sembach area, and you can learn about it and many other environmental issues. A free jazz-rock-pop workshop for piano and keyboard is offered from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Protestant church, Stiftswaldstrasse 56 in Kaiserslautern. The workshop features improvisation, music theory and ear training. For details

The Kaiserslautern Transition Center hosts a pre-separation briefing from 8:30 to
11:30 a.m. July 7 in Bldg. 3245 on Kleber Kaserne. Soldiers are required to take this presentation at least 90 days prior to separating (not retiring) from the Army. This briefing informs Soldiers about the process required to separate from the Army. To register, call 483-7071 or 0631-411-7071.

The Kaiserslautern Transition Center hosts a pre-retirement briefing from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 13 in Bldg. 3245 on Kleber Kaserne. At least once prior to retirement, Soldiers and their family members should attend this briefing. To register, call 483-7071 or 0631-3406-7071.

The Kaiserslautern’s Army Career and Alumni Program Office hosts pre-separation briefings from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday in Room 207, Bldg. 3245 on Kleber Kaserne. These briefings are mandatory and provide the required paperwork for separation and retirement orders.

Soldiers who are one year from their estimated time of service and two years from their retirement dates should call the ACAP Office for appointments. Soldiers must attend a briefing no later than 90 days prior to separating from the Army. Spouses of active-duty Soldiers are entitled to the services offered by ACAP. These services include resume classes, registering for Veterans Affairs’ briefings and job searches. Retired Soldiers and their spouses are entitled to ACAP assistance for life. The U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern Chaplain’s Office is seeking two contracted

The Ramstein South Chapel hosts an inspirational concert by two choirs from Altenkirchen at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Chor Vocale and its youth choir, Young Voices, present a diversified repertoire, including songs from musicals, Jewish and Irish music, pop and gospels. Admission is free.

The U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern Chaplain’s Office host the 2009 U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern Vacation Bible School from July 27 to 31 at the Landstuhl Elementary and Middle schools.
