Commander’s Action Line

***image1***Issue:
I am writing in regards to the crosswalks on the south side of base, especially the one between the medical clinic and bowling alley and the one between the post office and Service Credit Union. Drivers on these two streets are paying absolutely no attention to either the speed limits or the pedestrians already in the crosswalks.

Recently I was nearly hit by someone who was going over the 30 kilometers per hour speed limit when I was already in the crosswalk. I would have called security forces, but he was going too fast for me to get his plate number.

This seems to be a frequent occurrence in this area, and I feel like I am risking my life every time I step into a protected crosswalk. Please increase public awareness of what the striped lines on the road mean. And please increase the number of tickets to speeders who are pushing the limits further every day.

Response:
The 568th Security Forces Squadron has been monitoring the area along with multiple other high risk intersections in our community.

I would like to reiterate to all vehicle operators in the KMC to obey the posted traffic signs and to pay close attention to pedestrians and children around the schools, youth centers, family housing and the base at large.

I will reemphasize to the security forces that particular attention be placed on motorists who are violating traffic laws and they should be cited. Furthermore, if you witness unsafe vehicle operators, contact either the 568th SFS, Bldg. 2371 on Ramstein or the 569th U.S. Forces Police Squadron, Bldg. 2039 on Vogelweh, to file a written traffic complaint.
