Flag football officials clinic, tourney planned

Installation Management Command-Europe’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation training center will host a certification clinic for flag football officials July 24 to 28, along with a clinic tournament at Tompkins Barracks in Schwetzingen.

***image1***“We will be providing garrison football officials with training they need to hold follow-up clinics for teams in Child and Youth Services and intramural sports,” said Tom Hlavacek, an IMCOM-Europe MWR training specialist.

Attendees will focus on current rules, points of emphasis, officiating changes and field mechanics, and then take a written test before participating in the practical examination – officiating during the clinic’s tournament.

Kurt Klier, director of the intramural sports program at the University of Maryland, will oversee instruction during the five-day class. No stranger to holding flag training clinics, Mr. Klier has served as director and assistant director of officials for the National Flag Football Championships.
