Dayna Berry has decided to make a difference in the world.

While reading an article in her dad’s running magazine, Dayna learned about a girl who was collecting used athletic shoes to donate to poor countries where shoes are considered a luxury.

After some research, Dayna decided she would begin to collect shoes and see just how much she could do to help out the organization, One World Running.

Dayna has created a collection station in the assistant principal’s office at Landstuhl Elementary/Middle School, where she is a student in Debbie Edmond’s fourth grade class.

Everyone is invited to drop off used shoes in any condition. Dayna said any shoes that are donated and later deemed “unusable due to wear” are sent to a recycling center where they are ground for other uses.

Anyone interested in donating athletic shoes may do so by sending shoes with their child to school, or bring them to the school office at

any time.
